Does Canada still stamp passports in 2026?
Not automatically. At any airport with Primary Inspection Kiosks the entry is recorded electronically, and you have to ask an officer for the stamp.
Status Not at the e-gate
Arriving by air at a major Canadian airport now means a Primary Inspection Kiosk or an eGate: you scan your passport, confirm your declaration, and your entry goes straight into the CBSA system.
The CBSA states the consequence plainly - it no longer stamps all passports at airports with Primary Inspection Kiosks, and if you need a stamp as proof of entry you must request one from a border services officer after you finish the kiosk or eGate transaction.
But land crossings are a different experience. They are still staffed by an officer at a booth, so ink remains the norm there in a way it no longer is at Toronto Pearson or Vancouver.
How to still get a stamp
Finish the kiosk, then ask the officer you hand your receipt to. Say it is for proof of entry - that is the phrasing the CBSA itself uses.

Frequently asked questions
Does Canada still stamp passports in 2026?
Not automatically. At any airport with Primary Inspection Kiosks the entry is recorded electronically, and you have to ask an officer for the stamp.
How do I get a Canada passport stamp as a souvenir?
Finish the kiosk, then ask the officer you hand your receipt to. Say it is for proof of entry - that is the phrasing the CBSA itself uses.
Does a missing stamp mean my entry was not recorded?
No. Border authorities keep an electronic record of entries and exits regardless of whether ink goes in the passport. The stamp is a copy of the record, not the record itself.
