Does France still stamp passports in 2026?

No. France finished switching to the EU Entry/Exit System in April 2026, and non-EU short-stay visitors are no longer stamped in or out.

Status Stopped

The EU Entry/Exit System became fully operational across the Schengen area on 10 April 2026, and France completed the changeover at all of its borders within the following week. Manual stamping for non-EU short stays ended with it.

But your crossings are still recorded, and more thoroughly than before. EES logs each entry and exit against your biometrics, which is what now counts your days against the 90-in-180 limit. The absence of a stamp is not the absence of a record.

If nothing was stamped and no biometrics were taken as you left, that is the system working as designed rather than a problem to solve. You can check your remaining days on the EU’s official travel portal, and you have the right to ask a border officer how many days you have left.

How to still get a stamp

Not at a Schengen border any more. France still applies discretionary stamps in a few non-Schengen edge cases, but as a visitor you should assume the ink is gone.

Frequently asked questions

Does France still stamp passports in 2026?

How do I get a France passport stamp as a souvenir?

Not at a Schengen border any more. France still applies discretionary stamps in a few non-Schengen edge cases, but as a visitor you should assume the ink is gone.

Does a missing stamp mean my entry was not recorded?

No. Border authorities keep an electronic record of entries and exits regardless of whether ink goes in the passport. The stamp is a copy of the record, not the record itself.
